RazALERT FAQ

How do I sign up for emergency alerts?

If you are a student or member of the faculty and staff of the University of Arkansas, you are automatically enrolled in our emergency notification system. You will receive an alert in your email, via voicemail and via SMS text messaging in cases of inclement weather, hazardous conditions on campus, or any other type of campus-wide incident. You can opt out of these notifications or select how you receive these messages by logging into your ISIS account. If you are a member of the faculty or staff, you can change your alert settings using your BASIS account.

Are there other alerts that the University will send me? Can I select which alerts I receive?

Currently the University of Arkansas will only contact you in cases of an emergency, inclement weather, or other situations where the campus will be closed.

From what number will these text messages display?

You will see 23177 as the text messaging number sending you the confirmation message and all subsequent messages. Please save this number and program it as RazALERT or the University of Arkansas so that you can quickly recognize this number as the official source of the University's messages.

How do I opt to not receive text messages?

You may select to not receive text messages at any time by texting "STOP UARK" or "QUIT UARK" to 23177.

I opted out of text messages, how do I opt back in?

You can opt back in at any time by texting "SUBSCRIBE UARK" to 23177.

My parents or spouse or other family would like to receive emergency alerts as well. Can they opt-in as well?

You can enter up to six phone numbers and one additional email address (aside from your uark.edu address) to receive alerts in your ISIS or BASIS account. These can be sent to whomever you wish, but we strongly recommend that your primary number be your own.

Can I receive email alerts to an additional account aside from my UARK email?

You can sign up for up to one additional email address, as well as five additional phone numbers.

Will I be charged for the text messages I receive or send to the emergency notification system?

Text messages will be processed through your mobile provider according to your plan. Remember to make sure that your plan allows for you to receive text messages. Ask your provider for more information.

If I change my mobile service provider, do I need to opt in again?

If your cell phone number has not changed, then it is still registered in the system. If your number has changed, be sure to update it in ISIS or BASIS. You may need to subscribe again by sending a text message to 23177.

I opted-out of the emergency notification system, but I received an email or a phone call about a campus-wide emergency today. Why?

There certain situations which as long as you are a student or member of the faculty/staff, you will receive an alert. These situations include (but are not limited to) severe inclement weather, blackouts, violence on campus, or any situation where it may be mandatory for the school to evacuate the campus completely.

Can I receive alerts via TTY/TTD services?

Yes, the Connect-ED alert system can send messages using TTY/TTD service. You can sign up for this type of alert by logging into your ISIS or BASIS account.

Wow, all these emergency situations sound really scary. How likely are they to really happen?

Typically, most of the situations that would call for a campus-wide alert are going to be weather-related (such as icy roads or the very rare tornado). However, due to the recent tragedies at Virginia Tech and University of Illinois the higher education community across the nation has become very concerned with how emergencies are dealt, especially in regards to students' safety.

Will the University sell my information or use it in a non-emergency situation?

The University of Arkansas does not sell, lease or otherwise distribute your private contact information. We are currently looking into using our new notification system in others ways that would be helpful for students and staff alike, such as holiday reminders or class-specific cancellations. For more information regarding the terms and use of our emergency notification system, visit our privacy policy.
